Gary is a proven retail entrepreneur. He has over 20 years experience in conceptualising and delivering leading retail environments, including the Bayswiss retail concept, which grew to a national chain of 30 stores.
Gary Horwitz leads the Future of Global Retail Group.
He has assembled a group of property executives who have worked with him or for him during his professional career.
Gary was the MD of the Lendlease Retail group from December 2010 until 2020, and was responsible for both Asset Management and Retail Development in the shopping centre and the urban mixed-use businesses. He led a coordinated Retail place-making focus across Lendlease.
Prior to this role, Gary has had extensive experience in both retail and retail development. He worked with Lendlease Development for three years from 2007-10 leading the Retail elements of the bids on RNA, Barangaroo, and Darling Quarter. Prior to that, Gary was Joint Managing Director of the Freedom Furniture Retail Group, responsible for retail brands, new business and property. He also has extensive experience in establishing and managing his own businesses.

Gary has proven through the implementation and execution of sound retail fundamentals coupled with with an innate place making ability, resulting in layered authentic highly activated environments where people enjoy shopping, dining or just simply visiting.
Gary has recently delivered numerous large scale retail and mixed use developments, exceeding $10 billion in end value. Retail developments include Caneland central (Mackay), Craigieburn Central, Lakeside Joondalup, Macarthur Square, Sunshine Plaza. Urban Regeneration developments include Melbourne Quarter, Brisbane Showgrounds, Darling Harbour Live and the globally recognised and highly awarded, Barangaroo.
Gary currently spent 2 years with Lendlease, based in San Francisco as Managing Director of Retail and Place for the Americas. He led the retail and place making teams on the recently announced Google partnership, a key focus.
